Our vagina normally has a unique odor which most of us get used to over a period of time. If there is any change in this odor ie it gets stronger or more pungent then this may be a sign of infection.
An over growth of bacteria with in the vagina is the normal cause of vaginal odor. The smell will get more pronounced after sexual intercourse. Sometimes but not always the vaginal odor will bne accompanied with vaginal discharge and or itching and irritation.

Yeast Infection – Normally present with in the vagina are bacteria and fungus including the Candida bacteria. When this balance is disturbed and there is an overgrowth of Candida it leads to a vaginal yeast infection.
Douching – Washing out the vagina or douching will effect the bacteria with in the vagina can cause vaginal odor
Some types of scented perfumes will give a strange vaginal smell. This happens due to the fact some of the chemicals in the perfume effect the pHbalance of the vagina.
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection (STI). Will give women a foul vaginal odor.
Gonorrhea – The sexually transmitted disease Gonorrhea will cause a vaginal discharge and a vaginal odor.
How To Get Rid of Vaginal Odor?
A few self care tips
Avoid using scented soaps and body washes in the vaginal area. It is best to wash the vagina with plain water twice a day.
Try to stay away from douching as this can introduce more bacteria to the vagina
Wear cotton underwear to allow the vagina to breath. Avoid any sort of man made material such as nylon as this will aggrevate the situation.
During your menstrul period make sure you change pads or tampons regularly.
Yogurt – include yogurt in your daily intake to replenish the count of healthy bacteria in the vagina.
